About the process
The initiative commenced with a thorough needs analysis conducted through surveys to pinpoint skill gaps and discern preferences for digital learning modalities. The insights gleaned informed the development of tailored content that catered to diverse learning styles and directly addressed identified digital skill deficiencies.
The learning experience was delivered entirely remotely. Learners accessed a series of short online modules focused on digital skills. These modules were designed to be accessible and engaging, allowing learners to acquire knowledge at their own pace and convenience.
Integral to the learning experience was the practical application of newfound digital skills by creating a digital ePortfolio. Participants were tasked with assembling an online showcase of their enhanced capabilities, providing tangible evidence of their learning achievements and mastery of digital tools and techniques.
The digital learning initiative’s design, development, and evaluation adhered to the structured ADDIE framework. This methodical approach ensured that learning objectives were clearly delineated, content was thoughtfully curated, and delivery methods resonated with the learners’ preferences and needs. Evaluation measures were implemented to assess individual and course efficiency improvements in success and attainment, and feedback on content and delivery methods was collected to inform continuous improvement efforts.
The overarching aim of this endeavour was to deliver high-quality learning experiences that harmonised with Dumfries and Galloway College’s organisational objectives. By enhancing digital skills and offering professional learning opportunities to commercial businesses, the commercial courses department aimed to contribute to upskilling the region’s workforce and supporting economic growth and development.
