Business Fundamentals eLearning
Dumfries and Galloway College’s Business department embarked on a journey to offer hybrid delivery of their curriculum content, blending traditional classroom instruction with online learning opportunities. As part of this initiative, my role focused on enhancing the proficiency of course design and learning content to ensure high-quality digital delivery. This case study outlines the steps to address this objective and the outcomes achieved.

About the process
To begin, a needs analysis was conducted through surveys to identify skill gaps among learners and assess their preferences for digital learning. The findings guided the development of tailored content that accommodated diverse learning preferences, ensuring accessibility and engagement for all learners.
The learning content was delivered through self-directed study, timetabled workshops and hands-on exercises offered on flexible schedules to maximise participation. This approach allowed learners to access the content conveniently while maintaining engagement and interaction with course materials.
The curriculum content’s design, development, and evaluation followed the ADDIE framework (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation). This systematic approach ensured that the learning objectives were clearly defined, the content was effectively structured, and the delivery methods were aligned with the learners’ needs.
Throughout the implementation phase, individual and cohort efficiency improvements in success and attainment were measured to assess the impact of the hybrid delivery model. Additionally, feedback on content and delivery methods was collected from learners to inform continuous improvement efforts.
The overarching goal of this initiative was to ensure that learning objectives aligned with Dumfries and Galloway College’s organisational goals. By providing high-quality learning experiences through hybrid delivery, the Business department aimed to enhance student success and contribute to the institution’s overall educational mission.
The implementation of hybrid curriculum delivery at Dumfries and Galloway College’s Business department has been a success, thanks to efforts to enhance course design and learning content. The department has achieved its goal of providing high-quality learning experiences, which serves as a testament to the effectiveness of hybrid delivery in meeting the needs of diverse learners in today’s digital age.
